SVP, MetLife Xcelerator

Javier joined MetLife Chile in 2015 as the VP of Bancassurance and Direct Marketing business (Banca & DM), adding the EB business in 2020. Since 2021, his role has expanded to include leading Banca & DM in Latin America where he successfully managed expansion and growth in this channel for the region.

He led a significant turnaround business in Chile tripling its revenue and earnings contribution, due to a new strategy, a strong team, focus on profitability, cost efficiency and balanced risk. He was instrumental in reaching a leading market share, helping Banca & DM become a growth engine for MetLife LatAm, by doubling growth in revenue and eight times earnings growth (80M) from 2021 to 2024. During this time, Banca & DM LatAm exceeded 100 sponsors, and their active policies has reached over 15 million.

In 2024 Javier was appointed SVP – Head of MetLife Xcelerator for LatAm, leading a regional strategic unit as a fully digital and agile business ecosystem, driving solutions and distribution through partnerships in diverse industries. Through a multi-disciplinary and fully agile team spanning distribution, technology, data, product, customer experience, marketing and other critical capabilities required to drive Xcelerator growth strategy with a relentless focus on innovation, transformation and speed to market.


Javier previously worked for six years at Scotiabank as the General Manager of insurance and then VP of Products. He was responsible for leading all the banking group’s insurance businesses in Chile. During that time, he achieved profitable growth for the business, including all negotiations, M&A and LATAM regional agreements.


His experience prior to Scotiabank includes Banco Santander and Banco Estado in Chile,where he led roles across Commercial, Marketing, Products, Finance and Business Development. 


Javier is an Industrial Engineer with a master’s degree in marketing. He also holds a diploma in Business Innovative Change from Berkeley Haas and an Economics program in UCLA.
