From American Idol to ITC Vegas: Why Alexis Cierra Vaughn thinks ITC is the best stage

Nicole Peck

Alexis Cierra Vaughn, CEO & Founder, Off Course, is an insurance innovator who knows firsthand that the right platform can be the launching point for your next great achievement.

As a teenager, Alexis enjoyed early musical success on American Idol Season 2. Today, she’s a Women to Watch in InsurTech.

In 2010, after the birth of her son, she shifted gears and unearthed a new passion for insurance — taking her show down the insurance industry road instead.

Alexis’ accomplished insurance background includes leadership roles in marketing and agency distribution and owning an MGA. She is a sought-after speaker in the areas of innovation, agent and broker distribution, insurtech, fintech, strategy, leveraging technology, commercial lines, and cyber insurance. Her achievements have not gone unnoticed; most recently she was named on the Women to Watch in InsurTech list 2023, Insurance Business America Elite Women in Insurance, and Insurance Innovators Top 100 Media Influencers List

Today you’ll find Alexis enjoying the best of both worlds — recording in her home music studio when the creative juices are flowing, and pouring her talent and energy into Off Course, the consulting firm she founded and now runs with her husband, Marvin.

Dedicated to strategy, consulting, and custom e-learning training platforms, Off Course empowers insurance agencies and insurtechs with the knowledge and resources they need to navigate today’s complex insurance technology landscape and achieve sustainable growth.

Alexis has most recently added Adjunct Professor to her title, as she and Marvin build out and teach the Fintech Masters Program at the University of Connecticut for the 2024-2025 school year, with the goal of closing the talent gap in insurance and financial services.

Alexis’ versatile insurance background has given her a unique perspective on InsureTech Connect (ITC) and how important it is for every type of insurance business and professional to attend ITC Vegas (October 15-17) at the Mandalay Bay, Las Vegas. And agents won’t want to miss Alexis’ Mic Drop Session Don’t Fear the Insurtech! (And how to become one) on day one of this year’s conference.

Something unique for every business in the insurance ecosystem

Alexis’ consulting firm, Off Course, launched four months before ITC Vegas 2023. She attended last year’s conference to learn about the needs of insurtech and fintech founders and left with a long list of ideas, investor prospects, and carrier and reinsurer partnership opportunities that helped shape the continued growth of her business.

Alexis loves the versatility of the insurance industry, and prioritizes connecting, building relationships, and collaborating with the different types of people she meets at ITC Vegas. And with 9,000+ industry participants from across the globe, there’s no shortage of opportunities to do just that.

Alexis has personally witnessed and experienced the value ITC brings to carriers, agents, and insurtechs:

  • Carriers learn about innovative product distribution models and other technologies, products, and services to take their businesses from traditional to digital.

  • Agents interact with the cutting-edge solutions they use in their own workflows and speak directly with technology providers and innovators about the impact of these products and services on their day-to-day professional lives.

  • Insurtechs demo their products for a wide audience that includes their end users, potential investors, carriers, and reinsurers. They gain new, actionable insights on product usage and market fit while also fostering connections that lead to a next round of funding or distribution partnerships.

How to get the best ROI from ITC

Whether you’re a first-time attendee or a conference regular looking to enhance your experience, here are Alexis’ pro tips to make the most out of ITC Vegas:

  • Use the ITC app to plan for the sessions you want to attend and block off your calendar so no one sets meetings with you during those times.

  • Set goals with your team about what you want to achieve at the conference. Ask yourself what types of companies you want to meet with, and then use the ITC app to pursue those opportunities and schedule meetings. ITC has the best conference app because when someone accepts an invite to your meeting, you instantly receive their contact information.

  • Bring your leadership and end-users to enable a holistic conversation about what technology solutions will be most impactful for your organization.

  • Find the meeting location that works best for you.

We can’t wait to see you at ITC Vegas 2024!

With a variety of carriers ranging from property and casualty to life and annuity to group benefits, to reinsurers, brokers, third party administrators, independent agents, technology solution providers, insurtechs, and investors, every insurance business that needs, uses, and embraces technology belongs at ITC.

This year’s conference expo hall will be organized into Neighborhoods based on business type to make it easier for attendees to meet, collaborate, and partner with the professionals they are seeking out.

We look forward to seeing all our new and returning ITC Vegas participants this October 15-17. Register here to reserve your spot today.
