Ryan Naughton
CEO & Co-Founder
Exponential Exchange
Ryan Naughton is the co-founder and chief executive officer of Exponential Exchange. Exponential Exchange is a venture-backed fintech startup that has developed market-based risk management solutions including novel indices, tradable financial instruments, and derivatives to manage the risks posed by the mobility revolution and volatile used vehicle prices. Ryan leads Exponential Indices, LLC, an Exponential Exchange subsidiary, whose novel indices provide traders, portfolio managers, auto insurers, and auto finance portfolios with the most accurate and real time data on the state of the used vehicle market and its implications for their portfolio risk. Exponential’s Used Vehicle Index is published on the industry leading Auto Finance News weekly and is available on Bloomberg terminals. Ryan sits on the Index Governance Committee alongside Prof John Heaton and Prof Chad Sylverson, both professors of economics at the University of Chicago. Most recently, Ryan has led the development of a new tradable asset class for hedging risk: used vehicle derivatives. These tradable financial instruments enable large automotive fleets such as leasing portfolios and rental fleets to hedge against unexpected losses during fleet liquidation and auto insurers to hedge against volatile vehicle replacement costs impacting claims severity. Prior to founding Exponential Exchange, Ryan has run data-focused organizations and teams across fintech firms and nonprofits. He was the executive director and co-founder at the Center for New Data, a nonprofit utilizing big data to fight voter suppression. Prior, he was the director of engineering and data engineering at Fair Financial and a data engineering lead at Avant Credit with a focus on credit risk, fraud risk, and asset risk. He has a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Chicago.
