Chuck Wallace

CEO & Co-Founder, HDVI -- High Definition Vehicle Insurance

Chuck is the co-founder and CEO of High Definition Vehicle Insurance (HDVI) – a company transforming the commercial vehicle insurance market through data and technology.  Chuck is also a board member, advisor, consultant and investor with multiple companies and private equity firms.  Chuck focuses in the areas of next generation insurance and financial services (Insurtech and Fintech), innovative freight and logistics, and innovative mobility/next generation transportation -- and the intersection between the three.  

Chuck’s first roll in business was as co-founder and senior executive for eight years at Esurance.  Chuck helped build Esurance from a raw start-up to a market leader, with revenues approaching $1 billion, 2,000 employees, and offices nationwide.  Allstate acquired Esurance in 2011 for approximately $1 billion.  

Subsequent to Esurance, Chuck’s has held operating positions in successful, industry defining companies including: Head of Operations at Automatic Labs, the connected car platform that enables any car to be instantly connected to the Internet of Things -- SiriusXM acquired Automatic for $120 million in 2017; President and COO of uSell.com, the leading eCommerce platform enabling consumers to safely and conveniently sell their used electronics to trusted companies; and CEO of Ustream.TV, which pioneered and is now a leader in live interactive video broadcast -- IBM acquired Ustream.TV in 2016 for $130 million. 

Chuck’s started his career as an Air Force instructor pilot, first teaching young men and women to fly at undergraduate pilot training in Lubbock Texas, and then flying the C-130 Hercules in Frankfurt Germany and Willow Grove Pennsylvania.  He also served briefly as an Assistant Air Force Staff Judge Advocate General.   

Chuck is a past Director of Peninsula Family Service Agency, a non-profit social services organization that helps individuals and families improve the quality of their lives through a range of services to all ages.  He is also a past Director of Swords-to-Plowshares, dedicated to helping veterans in need by restoring their dignity, hope and self-sufficiency, and by reducing homelessness and poverty among former military men and women. 

Chuck’s education includes a BS in Engineering Mechanics from the US Air Force Academy, an MBA from the Wharton School, and a JD from the University of Pennsylvania Law School.  Born and raised in central Connecticut, Chuck now lives with his family in Northern California’s Bay Area.  He enjoys snowboarding, skiing, flying, community service, cooking and wine, and various forms of personal fitness.
