In spite of global insurtech investment falling in 2022, the percentage of deals in early-stage ventures (Series A and earlier) actually increased to 46% of total deals.

Each report includes a comprehensive ranking of the most exciting emergent startups in each region, as well as key trends that will shape each region’s future.
We take great care in producing these reports, with a methodology that combines Sønr’s comprehensive global data and insurtech experience and the analysis and perspective of some of the insurance world’s leading figures across the value chain.
Our Methodology
There are two parts to our methodology:
1) Sønr proprietary technology
Sønr is the world’s number one open innovation and startup scouting platform designed specifically for the insurance sector.
Companies are scored using the Sønr Index – a proprietary scoring technology, which considers millions of data points across three criteria points in order to determine their propensity to succeed:
PEOPLE
The key people across the business – taking in factors such as where they have studied, their past involvement with startups or notable companies, their known network, and whether they are considered experts in their field.
PRODUCT
Including the core tech stack of the business, patents they have registered, the customer problem they have overcome, and any exceptional tech or experience they have created.
PERFORMANCE
Growth metrics such as downloads, partnership, investments and traction. And other attributes including financials, market sizing and performance to date.
2) Independent experts
Once the list of companies that fit the crtieria is created, we recruit a group of world-class industry experts to act as judges.
Each judge has clear parameters to score an equal number of companies. We make sure each startup is critically evaluated and scored by at least three independent experts. We make the judges public.
The result is a data-driven and verified list – our Forward50 list.
Regional Reports
The purpose of the Forward50 reports is to shine a light on the hottest startups from around the world with a series of three regional reports: APAC, Europe, and the Americas.
Each report will be launched at the corresponding events: ITC Asia, ITC DIA Europe, and ITC Vegas.
